Antigone DIDN’T drink. Ask anyone. She stuck to juice and to water. She HATED the taste of alcohol. But tonight…
“OOH! It’s MY turn,” she said, practically slurring her words as she polished off her third- (fourth?!) drink andstumbled headed for the stage.
She took the microphone from the man and adjusted herself until she was standing center stage in the middle of the karaoke bar. Peering out into the darkness she could BARELY see the dark head out there and she gave a cheerful wave. Having given her request on a slip of paper to the DJ almost thirty minutes before, she was TOTALLY ready for this.
The opening notes of the song played and she put a serious!business look on her face.
You walked into the party like you were walking onto a yacht
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye
Your scarf it was apricot
You had one eye in the mirror as you watched yourself gavotte
And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner
They'd be your partner, and....
She burst into a huge smile, not slurring her words at ALL.
You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you
You're so vain, I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?
Really into what she was doing now, she began swaying her hips and really getting into the song. By the last verse, she was practically giggling and completely not caring who saw what.
But you gave away the things you loved, and one of them was me...
She summoned a drink to the corner where she had perched herself after the last chorus and lifted it to her lips, taking a drink before the last bit.
Well I hear you went up to Saratoga and your horse naturally won
Then you flew your Lear jet up to Nova Scotia to see the total eclipse of the sun
Well, you're where you should be all of the time
And when you're not you're with
Some underworld spy or the wife of a close friend
Wife of a close friend, and....
You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you...
At the end, to some applause, she took a deep bow and headed back to her seat where she polished off what could have been her fifth drink. She wasn’t counting any more since she couldn’t taste the alcohol any more.
”That was fun, I wanna go again!” She exclaimed. Her companion broke out into laughter.
“Oh, Annie. If I’d have known getting you drunk was going to be THIS much fun, I’d have done it years ago.”
Anne just laughed. Breaking up was hard to do, but not when Auntie Eris was around
